Kitchen Island Lighting Guide

AUVIELIGHT · LIGHTING GUIDES

Light for preparation.
Space for conversation.

An island is both a work surface and a place to gather. Compare fixture scale, sightlines and useful illumination before choosing a single pendant, a group or a linear design.

01

Record the surface and the ceiling

Measure the island length, width and worktop height, then record the ceiling height and any existing connection points. Mark the areas used for preparation, seating and appliances. Include opening doors or cupboards nearby.

Compare the available suspension range with the intended position. Final height needs to balance the product instructions, room conditions and installer assessment, not just an attractive photograph.

02

Compare layouts before committing to a count

A single fixture can act as one focal point. A repeated group can establish rhythm, while a linear form can follow the length of the worktop. Consider the dimensions of every fitting, not only the number of lights.

Draw the island and fixture footprints to scale on paper. Test the view from seated positions and the adjacent room. Leave enough visual space at the ends and between fixtures to avoid a crowded arrangement.

A DRAWING EXERCISE

ISLAND LENGTH · 240 cm60 cm60 cm30 cm60 cm30 cm

Two 60 cm-wide footprints centred evenly along a 240 cm island leave about 30 cm at each end and 60 cm between them. This top-view exercise compares visual spacing; it does not set the hanging height, light coverage or safe installation position.

03

Look beyond decorative brightness

Ask about light output and distribution, shade opacity and the direction of illumination. A striking chandelier may provide atmosphere without evenly lighting the whole preparation surface.

Discuss the complete lighting plan with your installer or designer, including any suitable task or ambient lighting. Check dimming compatibility if the island serves both cooking and relaxed evening use.

04

Bring materials and maintenance into the choice

Choose a finish you can care for using the product's instructions, and consider access for cleaning. Keep decorative fixtures away from conditions they are not explicitly suitable for, including areas affected by heat, steam or water.

Browse Kitchen Lighting and Pendant Lights, then send your shortlist with the island measurements. Our Handblown Faceted Tiered Pendant lists three diameters, approximately 60, 80 and 100 cm; compare the selected footprint and hanging height before deciding on a layout.

Questions before you choose

Are three pendants always the right choice?

No. Island dimensions, fixture footprints, connection points and light distribution should determine the comparison.

Can I use any pendant near cooking or washing areas?

No. Confirm suitability for the intended conditions and have the location assessed before ordering.
