AT THE TABLE

Start with
the surface below.

As an initial visual exercise, compare a fixture around one-half to two-thirds of the table’s width. Shape, light distribution and the room can change what feels right.

This is a proportion study, not an installation specification. Check the actual fixture and have the final position reviewed for your space.

BEYOND THE TABLE

Think about the
space around the light.

Ceiling height

Record floor-to-ceiling height and the proposed drop. Allow for movement, doors and sightlines.

Room footprint

Measure the room and the furniture zone the light will serve. Consider the fixture from different viewpoints.

Wall positions

Check the relationship to mirrors, headboards, shelving and switches before choosing the mounting position.

Table & floor lamps

Look at shade height, reading position and nearby surfaces. The best scale also works for everyday use.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Measure. Mock up.
Look again.

Use a paper outline or simple temporary marker to see the intended size in the room. Never suspend an unsafe improvised weight.

Keep width, depth, ceiling height and the product dimensions together.

Look from the doorway, seated positions and adjacent rooms.

Review the product instructions, suspension limits and mounting needs with your installer.
